I’m a band dad – my son Sam has been in the Carlynton marching band since he was in the seventh grade. If I’m completely honest I slightly dread the start of the football season. I work hard and I enjoy my quiet weekends. But by the time the season enters full swing I’m all about Friday night lights. I love the nip in the air, the enthusiasm of the kids and even the smell of walking tacos.
Carlynton’s football team has struggled a bit as a smaller school especially as the WPIAL has changed the team classifications. But the team fights hard and turnout at the games has been great. You would think that the team was playoff bound to hear the enthusiasm of the team and the crowd.
I’ve been responsible for taking pictures for the band banquet slideshow so I attend every home game and try to get to a few of the away games as well. It’s been a great opportunity to get to know many of the kids not to mention a chance to get out and take some photos. I’ll be the first to admit that I probably go a little overboard with the photos but it’s all in good fun.
This year has been a little unusual with beautiful, unseasonably warm weather for every game and event. These shots are from this year’s Homecoming Parade and Senior Night. Both events went off without a hitch. The emotions around Senior Night are especially strong as it strikes home that this is the final game that the seniors will attend.
